Day of Race/Tour Info Sheet

Welcome to the 4th Annual White Mountain Classic 30K.  The following UPDATED information will answer most of your concerns.  If not, any of our many volunteers will be glad to help.  Enjoy the race or tour, and thanks for coming!  Remember, it’s all for the kids!

BIB PICKUP:  Race HQ, Jackson Ski Touring Foundation (JSTF), Jackson Village
Friday 1/25 5:00-7:00 PM         Saturday 1/26 7:30-9:30 AM

PARKING ON RACE DAY: Parking is available at Jackson Ski Touring Center.  Additional parking at the Town Hall, Grammar School, and Gray's Inn lot.

RACE CLASSES: Normal NENSA 5-year age groupings for timed race.

COURSE:  One big 30 kilometer loop - see map on back of this sheet.  Kilometer markers at 5, 10, 15, 20, 25 26, 27, 28, 29, and at 200 meters.

WAXING:  The waxing area is outdoors near stadium start.  On 1/25 the race recommendation will be posted at www.JacksonXC.org.  On race day, the wax recommendation will be posted at the entrance to the Nordic Skier ski shop at the JSTF.

REST ROOMS:   Downstairs in the JSTF Center and at Jackson Community Church during lunch

START TIMES:  Timed Race 10:00 AM;  Untimed Tour 10:01 AM.  To provide the best skiing experience for everyone, all tourers must start promptly 1 min after racers.  This will allow tourers ample time to ascend the Yodel Trail at a leisurely pace before the racers begin their descent of the same trail about 25-30 min later.

START:  Self Seed Mass Start – If the person behind you is a faster skier, maybe your start will be more enjoyable by switching positions.

TECHNIQUE:  Classic - no skating technique permitted.

RULES:  Most of the 2-way sections on the course will have ample passing room.  Unless passing or clear view, please stay to the right.   When a 2-way section has four tracks; stay in the two tracks on your right.  There are tourists and other competitors on the trails.  Paying customers are not a cause for protest.  Any collisions under protest – both will be disqualified!

SAFETY:  Report any accidents or issues to the next feed station or road crossing personnel.  Emergency Medical Staff will be available at the Start and Finish areas.  Remember to drink plenty of fluids to prevent dehydration.

DROPOUTS:  If for some reason you are forced to drop out, please let feed station or finish area staff know.  This is for your safety and will eliminate the need for a search.   Also, do not cross the finish line and get timed unless you have completed the entire race.  Tourers should proceed through designated finish so that we can record that you have safely and successfully completed the entire course.

FEED STATIONS:  Eagle Station is located at 8.6 KM; Ellis Cabin Station at 14.9 KM and 26.1 KM; High Water Station at 20.1 KM.  Provided at each station are water, Powerade, oatmeal cookies, raisins, chocolate pieces, and pickles.  Typical Finnish Feed Stations favor the latter three!  Give it a try!

POST RACE LUNCH:  Post race lunch (FOR PARTICIPANTS ONLY) at Jackson Church (enter side door at back of church) from noon until 2:15 PM.  The Church is the only one in town, big white steeple and about 100 yards down the road from JSTF.  YOUR BIB IS YOUR TICKET!  The bib is also needed to collect Prizes and Awards, so bring it!  For friends and family of participants, there are several eating establishments within walking distance.

PRIZES:  New this year!  We have decided to do away with the Awards Ceremony so skiers and volunteers can either head home or go skiing right after lunch.  It will be replaced with a Prize Distribution System.  Here is how it works.  While you are out racing, touring or volunteering, names will be drawn randomly for prizes.  These names will be posted at the luncheon.  Lucky winners simply report to the Prize Distribution Table (at the luncheon) and submit your bib.  A volunteer will match your name and bib number with a predetermined prize.  Prizes not claimed by 2:15 will be given to one of our hard working volunteers.

AWARDS:  Also new this year! The top 3 men overall, the top 3 women overall, each of the 5-year age group winners, the youngest overall, and the oldest overall will report to the same Prize Distribution Table at the Church luncheon and submit their racing bib.  A volunteer will match the winner’s bib number with their edible award.  However, you may only qualify once out of the above Award categories.  Awards not claimed by 2:15 will be given to one of our hard working volunteers.
