   Jackson, New Hampshire

The #1 Cross-Country Ski Area in the

Eastern United States!

15 October 2007

Dear Ski Friend,

As autumn transforms the landscape around the village, Jackson Ski Touring Foundation’s trail crew is out preparing the trails for winter and I’m in my office writing this, our second Annual Fund letter.  Thanks to the generosity of last year’s contributors and mid-season snowfall the Foundation made the best of a challenging season. Right now, there are only two things that Jackson Ski Touring Foundation needs to make great skiing for you, your family, and friends: snow and money.

Today the Jackson Ski Touring Foundation is a world-class example of everything good about Nordic skiing, exercise and being outdoors.  In reaching this status, JSTF has become a model of a nonprofit recreational organization but our future depends on long-term financial stability.  The fact is, our future is underwritten by contributions from people like you, who know and care about Nordic skiing in Jackson.  The JSTF Annual Fund is an important component of our financial stability, and I hope you will support it.

For skiers who come here it’s all about scenic trails and superior groomed tracks.  For JSTF it’s about providing the trails, groomed tracks and so much more.  We are proud of the standards we have established and that you have come to expect of us.  You may say, “I understand the need for snow but why is money so important?”  Doesn’t the sale of season passes and day tickets cover JSTF’s budget?

The answer is: No.

Sales pay for only a portion of JSTF’s expenses because many of the programs that we provide do not generate income.  And to provide the high quality skiing you’ve come to expect from us, we must have the funds to improve and replace our existing grooming and trail equipment and to enhance our trails on a continuing basis.  It’s for these reasons that I ask you to make a donation to the JSTF Annual Fund.  Consistent with our mission, we are a nonprofit, tax exempt organization, so your contribution is tax deductible.

If I haven’t convinced you that a donation to the Annual Fund is one of the most worthwhile investments you could make, please read on or take a look at www.jacksonxc.org.  The range of services, programs and events that Jackson Ski Touring Foundation provides is impressive.

Jackson Ski Touring Foundation does much more than provide beautifully groomed trails.  This year JSTF will host 78 events!  Among them are NENSA’s New England J2 Championships for 14 & 15 year old skiers, including invited teams from Russia, Canada and Idaho, the 4th Annual White Mtn Classic benefiting the Valley’s junior program, “The Hearts of Jackson Tour” benefiting the American Heart Association and 3 special events benefiting the Northeast Passage adaptive ski program for disabled skiers.

We also have a complete range of children’s and junior programs.  We provide free skiing, use of equipment, and staff support for pre-school and grammar school P.E. classes.  We support an active Junior Ski Program for 12 to 18 year olds.  We provide free after-school programs including use of skis and staff support to give kids, and their parents, a healthy outdoor activity choice.  We provide unlimited free trail passes to national team athletes as well as high school and collegiate teams to train here.  These kids, like your own, are the future of nordic skiing.  Our programs for adults, like the Friday Gliders, Easy Sliders and Tuesday Trekkers also add significantly to a healthy quality of life for those who love to use the trails in Jackson.

If I have convinced you, enclosed is an envelope that will make giving a little easier.  Remember, JSTF is a nonprofit, tax exempt organization so your contribution is tax deductible.

I know I speak for the Board, the staff, our many volunteers, land owners, and everyone who will ski our trails when I say, “Thank you for making a contribution to the Jackson Ski Touring Foundation!”

See you on the trails!
