Jan 4 Ski Report

Ellis River Trail, picture taken Jan. 3

On Monday skiers will enjoy the remarkably good conditions we had Sunday… only better due to more grooming and another 1″ of snow at elevation.

There is a packed powder skate platform and classic tracks making use of four out of JacksonXC’s five trail networks, for a total of more than 40 K of skiing. Trails that were groomed earliest (Boggy, Wildcat Valley) have a dusting to 1″ new of new snow over Pisten Bully grooming. Keeney is recommended for UPHILL direction due to some open waterbars.
It is a great feeling when we are able to have three grooming shifts before a ski day; including a groomer who worked at Prospect Farm, another who groomed overnight from the Eagle Fields all the way up the North Ellis Trail and including the Keeney/South Hall Loop; and another who is right now grooming the Wave Trails and will wrap up with the Woodchuck, and explore the possibility of additional trail openings.
If you are looking for:
Distance: The full Prospect Farm Route is great for a long distance day, or if you like “loops” the Ellis/Keeney (uphill)/ South Hall/Bengt Loop is another 15+K option; add in North Ellis for 20+
New to many: Troll Trail, between Green Hill Road and the Red Fox Grille; there is a super fun loop in there for interval training if you are working on general fitness and/or race training!
Woodland hills and fun: The Wave, et al, enter from Valley Cross Road.
Gentle gliding: Wentworth Resort Loop and Woodchuck
Thank you to all the volunteers and donors, throughout the year, who allow JacksonXC to operate this beautiful trail network, through this extended pre-season. Learn more about contributing to the Jackson Ski Touring Foundation.
